about

Growing up in Manchester, my musical heroes were traditional Irish musicians. I heard this air played by the group Moving Hearts. It was written by Donal Lunny as a tribute to the great Donegal Irish Republican, Socialist and teacher Peadar O’Donnell. I went to see them at the International 2 on Plymouth Grove, Manchester in the 1980’s. I thought I was going to explode with the emotion, sound and pleasure I experienced that night. I’m joined on this track by my neighbour Liz Hanks. During my days as a stay at home dad I’d hear the sound of her cello drift across the back fence. We hung out at playgroups and eventually began to play together.
